"A little color goes a long way," is Brooke Shields' decorating philosophy. In her living room, she covered floral chintz chairs inherited from her mother in hot pink with white trim. For a calm, happy backdrop, she painted the entire first floor buttery yellow.

Brooke's family room carries the soft beach theme seen throughout the home. The see-through coffee table lets the room breathe and gives an open feel.

No formal airs here. Laid-back is the vibe in the breakfast nook. A fun chrome and stone table sidles up to a long banquette bench and woven bistro chairs. Hints of blue and yellow say "fun," while yummy oatmeal and creamy white neutrals are as unfussy as they are timeless. Brooke and her family use the space for everything -- from meals in the winter to late night games or jigsaw puzzles in the summer. Hanging over the banquette is a beach scene by Pulitzer Prize winner Vincent Laforet. "I'm intrigued by photographs of all kinds," Brooke says.

White makes a crisp, clean, and casual statement in the kitchen, but a bit of glimmer from the glossy subway tile backsplash and vintage-inspired hardware takes the style up a notch. An all-white countertop keeps in step with the clean surfaces, while medium-tone wood floors add warmth underfoot. Brooke loves an all-white kitchen because it's clean and bright, the feel she wanted throughout her dream beach house.

Mixed and Matched
Glam meets casual in Brooke's basement family room. A taupe-gray sofa from La-Z-Boy is cushy and comfy -- perfect for kicking back during family movie or game nights. The club chair, also from La-Z-Boy, can swivel to face the projection screen, and the pink adds a just-right touch of glam. The coffee table is 18th century Indonesian railroad ties encased in clear acrylic. The horse photo is a nod to Brooke's love of the animal.

Brooke’s office is awash in clean neutrals, from the crisp white trim to the soft gray walls and the slipcoverd La-Z-Boy chair and ottoman. She wrote a lot of her book, “There Once Was a Little Girl” from the desk in this space. The fretwork pattern of the shelf is echoed in the area rug. Colorful accessories and prized photos and art dot the shelves.

Ready to Entertain
Brooke and her husband, Chris Henchy, fell hard for the classic proportions of the 1920s cottage. Especially the outdoor spaces, like the back patio, which are perfect for entertaining.

On the Menu
When Brooke entertains on the patio, the menu invariably includes tomatoes and herbs she grows in the backyard, plus her specialty cocktail.
