Why Was MM's Smart Works 'Capsule' Launch Overhyped? https://harrymarkle.wordpress.com/2019/09/15/why-was-mms-smart-works-capsule-launch-overhyped/ vía @HarryMarkled

To me, it looked like MM wanted items that reflected her (her tote bag idea), and what she envisaged women would want rather than doing proper research by asking people what they actually needed and wanted, rather than presume. It shows how out-of-touch she is with real people and that she has little idea of British culture.

Summary of the launch

MM turned up wearing some of the items, gave a speech about what she thought about Smart Works (failures) and what women needed, claimed that she put the collection together (but reviews indicate several of the items had been in production and sold since 2018), promoted the Sussex Foundation, tried to make out she was being British by wearing items from M&S and JLP, inappropriately hugged some people, and others awkwardly, posed for countless photos, insulted everyone who had donated items to the charity, messed with her hair every few seconds, reminded people of the Grenfell cookbook, told people they were donating with the wrong mindset, and then rushed off claiming she needed to feed a baby when enough photos had been taken.

What was the real intent behind the launch of the Smart Works capsule collection? While the charity and its aims are relevant and worthy, has MM used them as willing participants in order to further and promote her public image? The premise of putting together a capsule collection wasn’t creative or innovative, because it’s been done before many times, including her time at Reitmans where she terminated her contract abruptly (the company said it was mutual to save face some believe) when Harry was on the scene because the brand looked too cheap, while several of the items in the collection had already been manufactured and had been sold before she became patron of the charity.

MM presumes too much, and her arrogance shows when she derides the donations that companies and individuals have given freely as a reason as to why she felt she had to ‘save’ and help the charity. In her mind that was her duty, and they would fail without her.

She rudely presupposes that people who donate give away things they don’t want, when that’s not the case for all. Some choose to donate because they know it will help the charity, and companies do more than giveaway end of season stock. It’s not community, it’s called being human. Is she trying claim that she has created a new way for people to donate, because that’s repugnant, but that’s how I interpret her words.

In the end she rushed off after having had her platform and ensured there had been enough photos of her hugging all whom she wanted to be seen with, claiming she had to get back to the baby (no name) because it was feed time! To be honest, most probably were glad to see the back of her, and while no one wants to see a charity fail or to bad mouth genuine good work, one can’t help but feel that Smart Works has been ‘markled’, and in return they will receive rails filled with the same four clothing items and a stash of tote bags.

Who will want to look as if they have had a charity outfit, and there are some who would prefer to sell the items online, and buy cheaper and more practical outfits with those funds. Personally, I would not blame them either. The speech and the launch was all about MM, and was a platform for her to spout and dictate her personal agenda. No one actually cares what she thinks, but the British have to put on a good act because of who she is married to.

The Royal Family are public servants to serve the public, while someone on a news site commented the only service MM deals with is self-service. Can you honestly believe someone who plugs herself, her beliefs, and her own brand at a charity launch is an honest and humble humanitarian? The charity launch was not about fashion, not about the Sussex Foundation, it was not about MM, it was not about feminism, it was not about dictating how people need to think when they donate, nor was it about dismissing the charitable acts others had done, but that’s what MM focused on.

The question people are silently asking is how much longer must they endure this charade, and pretend to accept her? The patience of many are waning, and support is declining as people can see this is all an act––an expensive one, yet all performances must come to an end. The Sussex charade is modern day a travesty, while those who enable this mockery lose any semblance of respect from the public. What the majority of the people want is to see the back of her, permanently, and while the ‘leave them alone’ and ‘let them have a private life’ brigade whimper their feeble defense, what they fail to understand is public servants are accountable to the public. They can hire all the PR companies and crisis management companies they want, but you can’t scrub clean rotten and moldy apples. Happy Birthday Harry! This is what you gave up your family and friends for.
